James Jones Jr. is the founder and managing member of The Jones Firm, PLLC. After spending years working for prestigious law firms and gaining invaluable legal experience, Mr. Jones decided to create a law firm that reflects his passion for and commitment to the law and the people, companies and communities to which the law serves.
Mr. Jones was born in Richmond, Va. After spending several years living on the streets of Washington, D.C. and Tampa, FL as a child, he moved to North Carolina in the early 1990’s with his mother, brother, and sister. He eventually attended college at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina where he played football for a year and became the Editor-in-Chief of the university’s newspaper. Mr. Jones was also named Student of the Year in 2002. He graduated cum laude from Winston-Salem State University in 2002 with a degree in journalism.
Mr. Jones was a journalist at a large newspaper in North Carolina for a year before entering law school at the University of Florida-Levin College of Law where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 2006. During his time in law school, Mr. Jones was a recipient of the Lake Lytal Jr. and Virgil Hawkins scholarships. He was also a member of the Florida Journal of International Law and received honors grades in Legal Research and Writing and Appellate Advocacy and was awarded a teaching fellow for those subjects. He also received a pro bono certificate for his public service work in Alachua County.
Mr. Jones focuses his practice on maritime and admiralty law, litigation, personal injury, sports and entertainment law, and project finance. Mr. Jones is admitted to the Florida Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
